Mixergy is a leading manufacturer of smart hot water tanks that offer energy-efficient and environmentally friendly solutions for heating water. Their innovative technology provides a range of benefits, including lower energy bills, reduced carbon footprint, and enhanced user convenience.
How Mixergy tanks work
Mixergy tanks use advanced stratified hot water storage technology, which allows for precise control over the amount of hot water heated and stored. Here's a simplified overview of how they work:
Stratification:
Mixergy tanks maintain a clear separation (stratification) between hot and cold water layers within the tank. This allows users to heat only the amount of water they need, rather than the entire tank.Intelligent Control:
Equipped with smart sensors and controls, Mixergy tanks learn the user's hot water usage patterns and optimize heating schedules to ensure hot water is available when needed, while minimizing energy consumption.Integration with Renewable Energy:
Mixergy tanks can be integrated with renewable energy sources, such as solar panels or heat pumps, further enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability.Remote Monitoring and Control:
Users can monitor and control their hot water system remotely via a smartphone app, providing convenience and enabling energy-saving adjustments from anywhere.
Electric and gas - Mixergy electric and gas-powered tanks use novel top-up technology to ‘float’ hot water on top of cold. This means you can selectively ‘heat what you need’, rather than the whole tank. A sensor within the tank ensures you’ll always know how much hot water is available. Top-up reduces heat losses and improves reheat speed from cold (5x for electric, 2x for gas). This helps save money, time and energy.
Heat pumps - Mixergy heat pump tanks heat using an external heat exchanger and circulating pump to heat the full contents of the tank from the bottom up evenly via convection. This has the benefit of improving the efficiency of the heat pump (while heating hot water) by up to 8% and can increase the amount of hot water stored by the tank by up to 20% in some cases.
Renewables - If you have an additional heat source, such as solar thermal or PV, you can heat water for free when the sun shines.By heating a smaller portion of the tank, you are leaving more water available to be heated by renewable energy. This allows you to use more of the energy you produce, and export less!
Benefits of Mixergy tanks
Energy Efficiency:
By heating only the required amount of water, Mixergy tanks reduce energy wastage and lower utility bills. Their smart technology ensures optimal heating schedules, minimizing unnecessary energy consumption.
Rapid Heating:
Mixergy tanks can heat water quickly, providing hot water on demand without the need to heat the entire tank. This feature is particularly beneficial for households with varying hot water needs.
Reduced Carbon Footprint:
The efficiency of Mixergy tanks leads to lower greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly household.
Enhanced Comfort:
Users enjoy a consistent supply of hot water tailored to their usage patterns, ensuring comfort and convenience without the worry of running out of hot water.
Smart Integration:
Mixergy tanks seamlessly integrate with home automation systems and renewable energy sources, offering a smart and future-proof hot water solution.
Applications of Mixergy
Residential Use:
Ideal for homes of all sizes, Mixergy tanks provide an efficient and reliable hot water solution for daily use, from showers and baths to kitchen and laundry needs.
Commercial Use:
Suitable for small businesses, office buildings, and other commercial properties, Mixergy tanks help reduce operational costs and support sustainability goals.
Retrofit and New Build:
Mixergy tanks can be easily retrofitted into existing hot water systems or installed in new builds, offering flexibility and compatibility with a wide range of setups.
Other smart home controls:
The Mixergy cloud offers the most sophisticated control over your tank. However, you can still connect it to other smart home energy management systems, including Hive, Nest, Tado and more. This requires a simple switched live line enabling your Mixergy tank to receive scheduled heating signals from your home energy management system.
